Summer is here! The weather is warmer, snow at lake level has melted, and you're packing away ski boots to finally slip on flip flops or sandals. One of the most popular ways to celebrate the beautiful bounty of summer is at our local farmers' markets and street fairs!

Tahoe City Farmers' Market

A favorite local kick-off to the season is Tahoe City Farmers Market, which features fresh produce and delectable local treats every Thursday from May 16 through October 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. There you can stock up on Northern California’s best purveyors of fruits, vegetables, local cheeses, meats, fish, condiments, and dressings — the list goes on and on! Pedal into Tahoe City on along the Truckee River bike path, grab a cup of hot coffee at the Dam Cafe, and enjoy the crisp morning air as you peruse the farmers’ market at water’s edge.

Here are a few featured vendors:

  • Taste tree-ripened fruit (you can't buy this at the supermarket!) from Twin Peaks Orchards, where four generations live and work on the land;
  • Visit McClaughry Farms Honey (first Thursday of the month only) and let the sweetness of hand harvested honey from the Sierra Nevadas dance on your tongue;
  • Pick up a luxurious gift for a friend (or yourself) from Tahoe Mountain Soaps.

So many amazing and delicious stands to visit, so little time.

Truckee Thursdays

If you've spent the day hiking, floating, or tramming and are not quite ready to hit the hay in the evening, be sure to check out Truckee Thursdays for a fun, family-friendly evening street fair (June 13 - August 29 from 5 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.) in historic downtown Truckee. Locals and visitors gather to admire the creations of regional artists, eat at one of the many food trucks, pause for a host of fun kiddo activities (elevation hoops, anyone?), enjoy a refreshing microbrew in the beer garden, and kick back to live music from local bands around the Tahoe-Truckee area.

Plan Your Vacation

One of the great things about booking a vacation rental home rather than cramped hotel room is the freedom you’ll enjoy with a full kitchen, living and dining area to cook and entertain. You are the master chef of your domain, with total freedom to whip up whatever you (or your group) desires!
