Spring is here and after an epic winter season — pushing 700 inches of snow this year — it’s a perfect time of year to celebrate everything we love about the area at the Tahoe-Truckee Earth Day Celebration.

With the snow melting a bit, and the wildflowers sprouting up, the area comes alive in the Village at Squaw. It’s a time of celebration with many fun activities for adults and children alike, but also one of education, where guests are encouraging to come learn all about alternative energy, sustainable living, composting, recycling, the reality of climate change (i.e., extreme weather).

As a family-friendly event there are several components to the weekend sponsored by local organizations with hands on science experiments and nature crafts. Back again for another year is also the famous ‘Trashion Show and Earth Day raffle. Enjoy live music by Serina Dawn Blues Band, Sol Horizon Raggae, and stick around for Climate Change short films. Various science advocates and educators, and concerned citizens are on site for a March for Science from 3-3:30PM — a march that’s part of the global movement: thousands of marches occur around the world on April 22.

What better place to focus on Earth’s beauty and natural resources than the Tahoe-Truckee basin? In the words of John Muir from The Mountains of California, “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn.”
